Volunteer Experience
I have done 10-hours volunteer work in total until February 8th. I have done different kinds of volunteer work such as teaching primary student and volunteering for the GCA Drama Show, community service, and volunteering in library.
I taught primary student on Sunday in Houzaimen community .There are some primary students here. Some of them need us to help them review for exam; some of them need us to help them do homework. Some of them need us to teach them new knowledge that they haven’t learned yet, so they can absorb new knowledge easily when they start new lessons. I learned to be patient from this work .For example, when I taught a girl Maths, some questions are very easy in my mind, but the girl still can not understand though I have taught her several time. On the other hand, I learned some studying skills by teaching primary students. When I finish my work, I usually stay there to see how other students in GCA teach these students. I can get their experiences and skills when they taught primary students how to review. Some times volunteers are a little more than the primary students who need to be taught, so two volunteers taught one student. One time, I have different idea with the other volunteer when we taught Maths. I think her answer for one question is wrong, I tried to make he agree my viewpoint. It is improve my community skills, and I learned that we should insist our thoughts when we have different idea or answer from others. This volunteer work is very meaningful in my mind.
The other volunteer work that I did is being a volunteer for GCA Drama show. My duty is lead audience to the room where the drama will be shown. I need to be here much more early than audience, because I didn’t know when the audience will come. When most of the students came, my duty is finished; I came to the door of the room and help other volunteers check tickets. When the drama started, our job is still not finished. We start to clean. After cleaning, we started to watch the drama as normal audience,too.From this work, I learned that when we do work, we should be the place that we work on time or earlier to make sure the work will continue smoothly. I did volunteer work in Nan Jing Library, too. I worked in the Reading-room. Magazines and books there are put in order. The person who was responsible for Reading-room gave us dozens of books and magazines, and asked us to put these magazines and books in order on the bookcases. There are some labels are hung on the bookcase, so I put magazines and books in order by seeing the labels.Actually,this work is a little bit boring to me, but I still need to be patient and careful or I will put books and magazines in wrong order. Reading-room is very hot especially when I worked for a long time. The high temperature in the room made me very uncomfortable. In the society, in the future, we will face many troubles when we work, and maybe we need to do some work that we don’t want to do just like I think organizing books is very boring, but we still need to be patient to finish the work.
Before spring festival, I also helped in community. In tradition, Chinese always write spring festival couplets on the red paper, and then hang this paper on the door. Chinese people believe that these couplets will bring good luck in next year. so I helped the community to hang this paper on the door of each building. This work is a little bit boring to me, too, but I still need to be patient, because be a volunteer, I have the responsibility to do the job well.
All above are different kinds of work that I did before February 8th .These experiences let me learn a lot of things.
