I attended Home Design Cultural Festival in the Cultural Arts centre which is on the Changjiang Road on May 1^st with my mother and my cousin. I chose to go this event because my mother is always interested in Home Design, so she took me to Home Design Cultural Festival with her.

You know, this festival is a good chance for Home Design Company to expand awareness and attract customers, so when my mother and me just entered the Cultural Arts centre, many representatives from different companies handed in their leaflets, ads and business card to my mother. I felt a little bit irritable for them.

The Home Design Cultural Festival is divided into 3 parts which are the exhibition of different home designs in last ten years, the exhibition of Nanjing Home award-winning design and high-end Nanjing Design Forum. From the exhibition of different home designs in last ten years, I can see the Changes in fashion trends in last ten years. I did not realize the change in fashion trends in Home Design before though I have moved house and the Deign of my two houses are totally different. I think that it is really a funny thing to see these changes. And high-end Nanjing Design Forum is an activity which is invented some famous home designer in Nanjing to come to make a speech and discuss the differences between different designs with persons who came to the festival. People can talk freely. I think that it is must be a good change to make designers and customers to know the thoughts from each other easily. This communication may stimulate designers ’inspiration and encourage them to make better designs. Many well-known brands are also involved in the exhibition, so people can pare the difference between these brands easily.

Actually, I do not like the event because it is not as interesting as seeing a concert or watching a play and something others, but it is really fresh to me to learn a lot about Home Design. It is also a good chance to make me know the things that I never realized before. I think I should learn to watch things such as Home Design around me carefully in the future.

I went to Christ Church which is on the Mochou Road with my friend Joanne (10-F) on December 14^th.We chose this particular religion to go because Jenny who is in the same class with me is a Christian and she sent message to tell me that New Year's Concert will be held on December 14,so I asked Joanne to go with me

This is the first time I felt the impact of Christianity even though I knew that Christian is one of world's three major religions before. There are many people came to the concert, not only foreigners but also many Chinese people. When the people on the stage read the Bible, most of them showed a pious expression. This expression is the same as which I used to see in Chinese temple when people see the Buddha. It can be seen whatever people regard, people are always pious to the religion that they believed in. Religion is such wonderful things that people do not believe in can not understand this kind of belief easily.

Another thing impressed me a lot is the excellent choir performances. Their voices are very sweet, even me, a girl who do not believe in any religion was attracted by their voices. Some Christians performed in a role play, too. Their performance is a little immature, but I can see that they have put much effort in this performance..

I like this event because it can calm me restless heart and make me become peaceful. In a busy life, I think that I need some time to relax and become peaceful. I am willing to attend this kind of religious event though I do not believe in any religions.

Go to a performance

I went to see a performance which is held by GCA Drama Club in NFLS Auditorium on December 19, 2008 with my classmates. This is a drama which is based on The Taming of the Shrew Shakespeare's masterpiece. I chose to see this performance because many students buy the ticket to see the performance, and the advertisement which is stick on the wall in GCA seemed very interesting and attractive.

Actually, I do not like the original The Taming of the Shrew which is written by Shakespeare, because this book is a bit of original thinking of a number of male chauvinism, I think. The wife ultimately obeyed her husband at the end even though she used to be a bad-tempered woman. But I like this drama, anyway.

Drama described as the character Kate shrew-tempered and stubborn temper, can not find any man who dared to marry her, never mind the case of reluctance, she married a tall, bearded men strong Piturca Hill. Piturca Hill wanted to train Kate to be a good wife, so he has taken "to violence with violence" approach and finally the one to tame the characters Kate.

Actors and Actresses who are from GCA Drama Club performed this drama in a funny way. Most plots of this drama can make audience laugh out loudly. Every time her temper with him, most audience laughed because of the funny behavior of these actors and actresses. I noticed that even some audience who was not focus on this drama laughed by seeing some plots. This can prove the success of this drama.

In conclusion this drama is really a interesting performance. Popular story behind the Renaissance with a strong concern for the fate of people, as well as the relationship between people. It can reflect the culture at that time. I hope that I can have the chance to see more and more good ,interesting drama like this one in the future.

School Club/Organization

I was chosen to be one member of GCA’s leadership Club this term .I gained many interesting and meaningful experience during the time in this club’s activity.

We always have meeting in the lecture theater in GCA to discuss different things. We did a lot of work such as Fashion show this term. All the members are divided into different groups to be responsible for different tasks in Fashion Show.

In the activity, we are always be divided into different groups with strange person who we do not know before, I think this rule give us a lot of practices .We have to get familiar with the people we did not know before on our own. I used to be a girl who is easy to shy and not brave enough to get along with strange person, and I know that this characteristic might be my disadvantages. I am changed a lot by this rule in our club activity.

We have two big activities this term. The first one is the Speech in Shelton Hotel. We are divided into different groups as usual. We need to pretend to be the worker in KFC a few years ago, and discuss if we should build KFC in china. Different group got different small topics under this big theme. I was in group with Mike(10-D),Sonia(10-D),Grace(10-C)and Fan(Grade 11).Our topic is China which means that we need encourage KFC to make a big market in china. I felt really tired at that because of the preparing for that speech. We stayed in school very late to practice the speech in lecture hall every afternoon before the Speech.. We need to make sure the grammar, the pronunciation are right when we make the speech. Finally, I think that our speech successful though all the members in our group make some small mistakes because of nervous or carelessness. I also learned how to do our presentation successfully from this experience.

The other big activity that Leadership Club held this term is Jiaxing Trip. We went Jiaxing and stayed there for 3 days to do different activities. I learned a lot from this trip. We played some activities in groups in Tongxiang GCA .I think that these games are similar as the games that we played in the school. The most interesting game must be imitated gunplay in my mind. Some people did not consider that they are died though we already shot them. Mr.Gallinelli realized that after he shot the same person for 5 times, then he shot everyone around him even his team member. This is very funny, I think.

I also learned a lot from other members during this trip. Most of us have exams after the trip, so we always reviewed for the exam after we finished the activity in the hotel. I knew many good students’ way of studying this time .I found many advantages from others. Another thing reminded me a lot is that, when we have dinner in a restaurant in JiaXing, the waiter asked us to pay 10 yuan because we did not by the expensive water from them. Cherry, the CEO of leadership Club quarreled with these waiters and waitress to protect our own legal rights. She seemed very powerful at that time. I think that I will be brave to negotiate with others to protect my legal rights in the future as her.

In conclusion, these experiences in leadership club are very meaningful and teach me a lot.

Volunteer/Work Experience

I did volunteer work in the Wulaocun community as last term. I went the community twice and spent two afternoons to help the workers there to do some cleaning job and help them to draw the blackboard newspaper which is the same as the blackboard newspaper that we did in school.

I also did the volunteer work which is the reception of some Danish students. Joanne who is a student in 10-F admit 2 Danish students together. One of the Danish girls is called Karine , the other one is called Lena. At first, we took them to see our school following the orders on the paper which is given to us by Ms.Bartell.. We climb the stairs up and down for many times because we are not familiar with every place in the school. I think that I will learn to be familiar with the place first before I become the guide for this place. We took them to NFLS Cafeteria, Student dormitory, Library at GCA , NFLS and Foreign teacher dormitory, uniform shop, large theater on 3^rd floor of cafeteria building, clinic, large ping pong playing area, science labs ,computer labs, large lecture theater at GCA and new gym ,and some other rooms in GCA building. I think that one of the interesting things is that Ms.Bartell told us some foreigners are interested in squatting toilet because they never see it before. When we asked the two girls if they want to see squatting toilet, they smiled and said that they have seen that before.

After showing them all the places on the paper, Ms.Bartell said that we can go home or lead these Danish students to the place outside the school. Joanne and I took these two girls and some other Danish students to the Chinese market near the school because they told us that they want to see the Chinese market. I noticed that they felt very excited when they saw some vegetables or fruits that they never see before. I realized the difference between two cultures at that time.

At lunch time, these Danish students said that they want to go to skyway bread store, so we took them to go to the place. An accident happened on the way to skyway, when we went past the military area, Lena took a picture of the military, then some serviceman in the military area came and did not let Lena to go. They asked Lena to leave the camera there because it is not allowed to take picture of military in china. As a Danish student, Lena did not know this rule before, and she was not willing to leave her camera here, so we helped her to negotiate with these military people. Military is always strict, they did not let Lena go without leaving the camera .Then many Chinese people came here to see what happened. I noticed that these Danish students got nervous with so many Chinese people thought that I was not able to handle this situation on my own, so I called Ms.Bartell’s friend Ms.Hadley because I do not have Ms.Bartell’s phone number. Luckily I contacted Ms.Bartell successfully. She sent a Chinese teacher who can say both English and Chinese to handle this trouble.

Finally, this situation was handled successfully, the military just asked Lena to leave the memory card which is in the camera and have the picture of military ,and gave her the camera back. The Chinese teacher took his memory card to copy some meaningful picture on Lena’s memory card.

Lena is very thankful to Joanne and me, we left our e-mail address to each other.

Anyway, this accident impressed me a lot. I also learned a lot from this accident, I think that I may can not take picture of some special areas in foreign country.
